Xiloxochl faces an avian inferno, seeking a path to silence the flames beyond mere force.

The melodic floating jungle trembles. An avian inferno of blinding light tears through the canopy, its heat threatening to consume the history Xiloxochl swore to protect with every fiber of her being.

Water-wands and ancient spells fail; the fire only feeds on the struggle. Xiloxochl remembers the Shadow-Weaver’s warnings: some fires cannot be doused, they must be convinced to lose their hunger.

Out of the ink-dark mist, the Shadow-Weaver appears. They whisper that fire is merely a rapid exchange of energy, and to stop the spread, one must starve the reaction of its fuel.

Xiloxochl realizes the trick: she does not need water. She must use the heavy, oxygen-displacing spores of the jungle’s deepest fungi to create a suffocating, inert blanket of air around the beast.

She climbs the highest bough, her mantle fluttering. With precise movements, she releases the spores, watching as they drift upward, a heavy, silent cloud meant to starve the solar predator.

The fire falters. Deprived of the air it craves, the phoenix dims, its brilliant feathers dulling to embers. The jungle breathes a sigh of relief, but the silence is heavy and unnatural.

As the fire dies, the ash reveals something trapped within the core—a metallic artifact vibrating with a sound she hasn't heard in centuries. What did she actually just extinguish?
